Guest lecture by Professor Amit Dey

On Wednesday, March 23, 2016 Professor Amit Dey from University of Calcutta and Visiting Professor at the Department of History, Uppsala University gave a lecture on the topic: The Image of the Prophet Muhammad in East Indian and Bangladeshi Folk Tradition: A Historical Perspective.

Prof. Dey is the author of numerous books and articles including Islam in South Asia (2015), The Image of the Prophet in Bengali Muslim Piety, 1850-1947 (2006) and Sufism in India (1996). He has delivered lectures in the United States, England, Germany, Sweden, Italy, South Korea and New Zealand.

The lecture was cosponsored by the History Department and The Forum for South Asia Studies.
