Ashok Swain: "Don't let commercial interests prevent legitimate criticism"

2016-02-12

"Don't let commercial interests prevent legitimate criticism" says Ashok Swain ahead of Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven's visit to Mumbai, India in Dagens Nyheter.

"If Sweden is serious about its new foreign policy makeover, Löfven at least in his meeting with Modi should officially raise his concerns about fast deteriorating state of human rights and religious tolerance in India. Secondly, he also needs to ensure that Swedish investments in ‘Make in India’ do not lead to more environmental damages, ecological destructions, population displacement and labor exploitation."

Ashok Swain is Professor of Peace and Conflict Research at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University.
