Emerging Markets in Transition: Growth Prospects and Challenges


We were excited to welcome Dr Kalpana Kochar, Deputy Director, Asia and Pacific Department, international Monetary Fund at the Forum for South Asia Studies. Mrs Kochar discussed "Emerging Markets" with Dr Ranjula Bali Swain, Ambassador Banashri Bose Harrison, Professor Nils Gottfries, Professor in Nationalekonomi and other scholars at the Department of Economics at Uppsala University on March 6, 2015.

Kalpana Kochhar is currently a Deputy Director in the Asia and Pacific Department of the IMF. Between 2012 and 2014, she was Deputy Director in the Strategy, Policy and Review Department. Between 2010 and 2012, she was the Chief Economist for the South Asia Region of the World Bank. Dr. Kochhar’s research interests and publications have mainly focused on studies of emerging markets, jobs and growth including gender issues and structural reforms, and Asian economies, including major reports on jobs, inequality and regional integration in South Asia. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University, USA.
